Beyond Conventional UV Absorbers: Next-Gen Long-Term Weatherability
The award-winning Chiguard® R-455 is a reactive benzotriazole UV absorber developed by Chitec Technology. Its core breakthrough lies in overcoming the limitations of traditional additive-type UV absorbers, which rely solely on physical blending to disperse into polymer matrixes.
R-455 is the world's first commercially scalable benzotriazole UV absorber featuring a diol structure capable of participating in TPU chain extension polymerization. Equipped with primary diol functional groups, it chemically crosslinks with curing agents such as isocyanates, amino resins, and organosilicones. By bonding covalently into the polymer backbone, the UV absorber becomes an integral part of the polymer chain structure itself.
At low dosage levels, R-455 enables aromatic polyurethane to match or even surpass the anti-yellowing performance of aliphatic TPU, while completely eliminating the risk of additive blooming and migration.
Additionally, R-455 is exceptionally well-suited for polyurethane (PU), thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and related coating systems. It significantly enhances anti-yellowing performance and long-term weatherability, fulfilling the stringent demands for durability and visual stability in high-performance polymers.

In specialized light-blocking layer designs, even at high loadings of 10% to 20%, R-455 maintains over 65% visible light transmittance, showcasing its unique capability to deliver maximum UV protection without sacrificing optical clarity.
