Chiguard® 9546 Blue Light Absorption Technology Granted South Korean Invention Patent

Chitec Achieves Another R&D Breakthrough, Expanding Its Global Patent Portfolio Beyond Japan and Canada

Chitec announced that the technology associated with its proprietary high-performance blue light absorber, Chiguard® 9546, has received further international patent recognition with the official issuance of a Notice of Patent Grant in South Korea.

According to the notice issued by the Korean Intellectual Property Office on August 6, 2026, the patent application number for this case is 10-2024-7043037. Following substantive examination, a decision to grant the patent was made pursuant to Article 66 of the Korean Patent Act, encompassing a total of 19 claims.

This Korean patent approval marks another major milestone in the global intellectual property strategy for Chiguard® 9546. Building on previous patent grants in Japan and Canada, this grant from the South Korean patent authority further broadens Chitec’s technological IP protection across key Asian and global markets.

Core Technological Breakthrough: Precise Absorption of High-Energy Blue-Violet Light

The title of the invention granted in South Korea is:

"Blue-Violet Light Absorbing Composition Containing Phenylacrylonitrile Compound, Method for Producing the Same, and Product Containing the Composition." The patent scope covers the blue-violet light-absorbing composition, its manufacturing method, and related applications, with the representative commercial product being Chitec's next-generation organic blue light absorber, Chiguard® 9546.

With the rapid growth of high-resolution displays, mobile devices, and immersive applications such as AR, VR, and MR, optical material requirements extend beyond simple absorption efficiency. The market increasingly demands a fine balance between optical performance, material transparency, color fidelity, durability, and processing adaptability.

Chiguard® 9546 was specifically engineered to meet these evolving needs.

Through precise molecular design, Chiguard® 9546 features an absorption peak at approximately 403 nm, enabling targeted filtration of the blue-violet spectrum while maintaining high clarity and low color shift. Additionally, its molecular structure provides excellent photostability and long-term durability, ensuring consistent absorption performance during extended use. Chiguard® 9546 also offers strong thermal stability and solvent solubility, supporting diverse material formulations and processing conditions.

In coating applications, its high organic solvent solubility allows seamless integration into various coating systems, facilitating high-concentration formulations with stable dispersion. In plastics applications, its high thermal stability enables effective incorporation into polymer matrices.

By combining high absorption efficiency, low initial color, photostability, thermal stability, and versatile processability, Chiguard® 9546 offers material designers a highly adaptable blue-violet light management solution.

Target application areas include optical lenses, contact lenses, TAC films, polarizers, display materials, high-performance coatings, and UV-curable systems, helping developers protect optical quality while meeting endpoint requirements for blue light management and long-term durability.
